Prosperity and wealth generation of a nation and society is
measured by the entrepreneurial spirit of its citizen.
Entrepreneurship is a critical concept of industrialization and economic
progress. Entrepreneurs are expected to play vital role in the process of
development by introducing innovations and demonstrating leadership qualities in
the dynamic situation. Entrepreneurship has been found as a low cost and
long-term strategy for ensuring supply of right kind of entrepreneurs in the
economy to sustain the development tempo.
The Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) was established at
Bengal Institute of Technology and Management, Santiniketan on 17-12-2008 and
was operationalized under the Department of Management Science. The focal
objective of EDC is educating and training people for developing entrepreneurial capabilities through
positive training interventions.

To motivate
students to undergo Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP), skill
development training and enhance self employment opportunities.

To converge
managerial skills with the logic and rationality of science & design and
application of technology so that it can produce a synergistic output to
maximize wealth creation for the student community as well as societal
community.

To stimulate
students in creativity and innovation with uninhibited idea generation and
guiding them towards financial viability analysis of those ideas.
To organize
seminars/ guest lectures / workshops/ industrial visits.

To conduct market &
social surveys through the institutional mechanism.

To transfer the
technical know-how and assist the students in setting up entrepreneurial
enterprises.

To identify the
areas those are of importance to the people of Bolpur, Santiniketan in fostering
Entrepreneurship.

Activities carried out in the last 5 years
1.
The endeavour for setting up a full-fledged Entrepreneurship Development Cell at
BITM started in the month of July, 2008.
2.
Collaboration with NATIONAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP NETWORK was ensured by signing up a
MOU on 12-09-2008
3.
First Seminar on Entrepreneurship Awareness at BITM was delivered by Mr. Debmalya
Bhattacharya, Consultant NEN on 27-09-2008
4.
BITM sponsored in full 5 students from assorted departments to participate in
E-Leader workshop held at BCET, Durgapur: August, 2008
5.
Formation of EDC, BITM : 17-12-2008
